After a really good few results for The Arsenal, it’s Leicester City up next. On current form, and with Jamie Vardy missing, it’s a game we should win.
The previous few games have given us a great insight into how The Arsenal have progressed as a team this season, particularly since the Christmas period of games.
Looking at the two games against Wolves, you get a clear indication of how this Arsenal side can easily adapt their game, to suit a situation.
Away at Wolves we took an early lead, and then got a player sent off. A backs to the wall performance was required for the rest of that game, and the players did not fail us. Urged on by the vociferous fans, every one of the ten players left on the pitch played with a heart and passion that we could only dream of in recent seasons. The end result being the well earned away win.
In the home fixture against the same side, a completely different performance was required, and once again the players did not fail us. After going behind to an early goal, the Wolves side attempted to do exactly what the Arsenal team had done at their place a couple of weeks earlier. They put every player behind the ball, constantly time wasted, complained about every decision and tried their very best to keep hold of their one nil lead. But this Arsenal side doesn’t give in like recent seasons. They battled and played their hearts out for the cause until the very end, and were suitably rewarded for their effort with two late goals. Wolves had tried (with 11 men) to do what Arsenal had done at their place, but just weren’t good enough.
We can then look at the games against Brentford and Watford. Two games you would expect Arsenal to win, and you could be forgiven for thinking those wins would be comfortable ones. But on both occasions The Arsenal weren’t at their very best and had to make do with a win by just the one goal. This is the important point, and one to remember. The Arsenal didn’t play to the best of their ability, but still won both games. Once again, something we wouldn’t have seen over the last few seasons.
All of the above suggests that we should have enough in the tank to beat what has been an average Leicester side this season, regardless of what type of performance is required on the day. I am writing this the day before the game, so hopefully we will be celebrating another win tomorrow.
The current league table makes very good reading for us Arsenal fans. A Champions league place is in our own hands, and a consistent run in would see us taking our place in European competition once again next season.
There has been some comparison of types of Arsenal fans this week, but I would say the atmosphere created both home and away by our supporters this season, has been nothing short of superb. Fans of all ages are getting loudly behind our players, and this has undoubtedly helped the performances on the pitch. Mikel is always singing our praises, and rightly so.
Up The Mighty Arsenal
Hillsy……
